Macquarie 1811 – A Journey Through the Midlands. An exhibition currently showing at The Tasmanian Wool Centre, Ross.
The exhibition traces Macquarie and his travelling party’s journey from Hobart Town to Port Dalrymple, including excerpts from his diary with prints of watercolours by Colonial Artist, Joseph Lycett; depicting the places named along the way. The exhibition includes collections of early surveying equipment, colonial military memorabilia and other artefacts relative to the time. The exhibition is open daily at the Tasmanian Wool Centre from January until April 17th 2012. Entry is by donation.

RSVP:  9th March 2012 Tel:  6376 1479 / 0419 731 452 Email:  historyroom@bodc.tas.gov.au  An amazing array of antique lace and artefacts recently donated by Mr. David Hirst, Wybalenna, St. Helens.  The collection was his Grandmother’s, Florence Mary Parker (1872 – 1966), community worker, Hobart.  Florence Parker was the grand-daughter of   John  Davies, founder of the Mercury newspaper in Hobart.  The family connection to St. Helens was through holidaying at Wybalenna each year from 1909 onwards.    For her work with the Tasmanian division of the Australian Red Cross Society, Mrs. Parker was, in 1918, one of the first two people appointed an OBE in Tasmania.

Franklin History Group is holding an exhibition for Seniors Week, Franklin’s Heartbeat, illuminating the historic relationship between Franklin and its hinterland with the Huon River.  The Mellukerdee people used the Egg Islands which divide the River as a source of food. The white settlers who joined them depended on the River for transport, trade and recreation.   Everyone is welcome at the Palais Theatre, Franklin, Saturday, 6 October 2012, 10.30am – 3.30pm.  Donations will help establish a museum in Franklin.

“TREASURE TOWN”  –  Ulverstone Revisited. The Ulverstone Show will take place on Saturday 3rd Novembernext, location is the Sports Stadium in Flora Street, Ulverstone. All of the buildings pictured were at one time situated in Ulverstone, however, due to the passage of time, redevelopment and a devastating fire in 1921, just a handful of the original buildings represented here still remain standing in and around Ulverstone.   The Ulverstone History Museum proudly presents replica buildings from the Frank White Collection at this year’s Ulverstone Show.   The collection comprises approximately 65 buildings and most will be on display at the Show this year, the most impressive building being the Public Offices which was demolished in 1962 having been in service as a public building for only 72 years.    The display will also include a working model of the Ulverstone Railway Station. Leven Regional Arts creators of the Arts on Fire event  together with the Forth Valley History Group will also be exhibiting in Stadium 2 and will provide an interesting and enjoyable experience for Show visitors. Latest exhibition at the Deloraine Folk Museum is a variety of subjects from  the Admiral Collins who was born in Deloraine 7 January 1899. Lt. Col. J.E.C. Lord was 1st AIF 40th Battalion 1914-18 – Commissioner of Police   – Tas – 1906 – 1940 and the collection was donated by John & David Lord. Malua was Australias most versatile race horse ever. He won the Melbourne Cup 1884. Was bred By John Field of “Calstock” Deloraine. Mr. L.F. (Poley) Clark was a Deloraine Identity. Last years successful research and display showed how the old Town Hall had played such an important part within the Forth community. Now we are ready to look at the Early Forth Homes and Businesses within Forth itself, and the families connected with them.
